Why
Coral Reef?

Coral Reef has a bold vision to bridge the critical housing gap for adults with disabilities in West Michigan. Our innovative model redefines residential care by merging the security of supportive living with the dignity of independence and the stability of “ownership.”

A Place for Connection and Well-Being

Designed with neurodiverse young adults in mind, our community will foster deep peer connections through shared living spaces while safeguarding the private, personal sanctuary essential to individual well-being.

Convenient Campus

Coral Reef Grand Rapids will be located steps from the University of Michigan Health-West campus in a walkable, connected setting. With nearby parks, trails, restaurants, grocery stores, public transit, a YMCA and the Special Olympics Michigan Unified Sports & Inclusion Center, residents will have easy access to everyday essentials, care, recreation and community.

Intentional Design

With 28 one-bedroom units on three levels, Coral Reef is designed to support independence, comfort and connection. Each resident will have a private living space with a bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette, balanced by inviting shared areas and family-style meals that encourage routine social interaction. Thoughtful features like secure entry, shared laundry on each floor and 24/7 on-site staff provide safety and support without compromising autonomy.

Inspired Programing

Coral Reef will build on community resources and offer tailored programs that support life skills, social connection and personal growth. Residents will actively shape lives of independence, purpose and inclusion by participating in group activities and outings while working one-on-one with staff to pursue goals related to daily living, employment and volunteerism.

Employment Opportunities

For residents who desire employment, Coral Reef staff will provide guidance, job-search support and transportation to and from workplaces. The location of the building also offers walkable access to many potential employers, expanding opportunities for meaningful work and greater independence.

Engaged Residents

Residents of Coral Reef will bring a wide range of learning styles, abilities and social experiences. What they share is a common desire: to live as independently as possible, surrounded by peers in a supportive and engaging community.

Sustainable Model

Coral Reef’s intentionally small, 28-unit size balances long-term sustainability with the warmth of a close-knit community. A unique residential equity model — similar to shared ownership — provides long-term stability, lower monthly costs, and added peace of mind for residents and their families.

“I’m looking forward to living at Coral Reef — the new friends, the group activities and the independence. I want to live with dignity in my own place, while knowing I have a supportive structure around me.”
